CALLING ALL EFDAs: WE NEED YOUR HELP

It is time for Ohio to clarify allowable duties for EFDAs.  Our office frequently gets questions from EFDAs and dentists asking about the permissibility of duties.

In reality, many EFDAs perform duties in the “grey area,” meaning that the State is silent on them but they probably fit within the scope of an EFDA’s skills.

Here’s how you and your dentist can help (all responses will be kept confidential):

• Send us duties performed by an EFDA in your office that you and/or your dentist believes is in the grey area.

• Send us duties that are currently NOT permitted, but SHOULD be in the scope of an EFDA’s duties.

We will take these issues to the Ohio State Dental Board and engage in discussions to clarify EFDA duties. Some may already be permitted. Some may require an administrative rule change. Some may require a change in law.

For reference, linked below is the Ohio State Dental Board’s Allowable Duties Matrix.  This document was last revised in 2017.

Thanks for your help.  Please consult with your dentist and send us your thoughts no later than Friday April 18.
